Bangladesh’s apex garment makers’ body, the BGMEA, has sought duty-free market access from the Russian Government for ‘Made in Bangladesh’ apparel items.
According to reports, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has sought this facility in a letter written to the Russian envoy in Bangladesh recently.
In the letter, Faruque Hassan, reportedly, called on Alexander Vikentyevich Mantytskiy to grant duty-free access to Russia for the apparel items even as he maintained that since Bangladesh has graduated to a middle-income country, there will be certain changes in market access after 2026.
“We need to diversify our exports to markets where we have clear potential. For us, the topmost priority is to get preferential market access to Russia,” reportedly, underlined the BGMEA President while also adding it will not only open a great opportunity for Bangladesh to deepen trade relationship with Russia, but will also allow Russian consumers to benefit by availing quality goods at competitive prices from Bangladesh.
