
With an aim to enhance the competitiveness of the Bangladesh garment industry, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the WTO Cell of the Ministry of Commerce to establish a Centre of Innovation, Efficiency and OSH.
According to media reports, the Centre for Innovation and OSH, apart from aiming to build industry’s capacity to achieve the level of excellence in the field of product, especially through use of technology like virtual prototyping and 3D designing and support the industry to further optimise lead time and cost to a great extent, will also work to augment the knowledge of future production leaders, increase efficiency of a manufacturing unit in the field of resource efficiency and Industrial Engineering (IE) coupled with occupational health and safety (OSH) while also arrange on the job and vocational trainings for graduates of Textile Engineering and Industrial and Production Planning Engineering, from Bangladesh’s various universities.
The BGMEA President Faruque Hassan and Project Director-Export Diversification and Competitiveness Development Project (Tier-II) and DG of WTO Cell-Ministry of Commerce, Md. Hafizur Rahman signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations in the presence of Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin, Senior Secretary of the ministry.
