The BGMEA (Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association) issued the directives in a letter to factory owners following a meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan at his secretariat office in Dhaka recently.
The garment industry’s representative body advised factory owners to seek assistance from law enforcement agencies in the event of any disruptions.
According to the letter, factories that implemented the ‘No work, no pay’ policy under Section 13(1) of the labour law on 1st November would also remain closed on 2nd November.
The letter further specified that factory owners would ask their workers to resume work on 4th November.
In the event of any unrest at a factory on 4th November, the letter stated that the production units would be temporarily shut down under the provisions of Section 13(1).
The BGMEA’s communication recommended the filing of police cases against individuals found involved in acts of vandalism.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan informed the media that approximately 80 per cent of factories were operational on 2nd November, while more than 300 factories remained closed on that day.
