Anwar Hossain, the administrator of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), met with Alexandre Saus-Salas, the head of sourcing at C&A, on Monday at the BGMEA office in Uttara. Global market trends, prospective business expansion prospects, and the state of the ready-made garment (RMG) industry in Bangladesh were the main topics of discussion.
For many years, C&A, a well-known international fashion retailer with about 1,300 locations throughout Europe, has been sourcing from Bangladesh, making it one of the major consumers of foreign apparel in the area. The significance of improving the Bangladeshi garment industry’s competitiveness in the international market was emphasised during the discussion, which also included Shantanu Singh, Regional Sourcing Manager of C&A.
Administrator Anwar Hossain highlighted Bangladesh’s growing position in international decarbonisation initiatives and its dedication to ethical sourcing standards while offering insights into the notable changes occurring within the country’s garment industry. He pointed out that, with 230 facilities approved by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), Bangladesh has the most green garment factories globally. Notably, Bangladesh is home to almost half of the top-ranked LEED-certified factories worldwide.
In keeping with Bangladesh’s strategic move towards high-end fashion items, Hossain asked C&A to get more clothing from the nation, especially high-end items made of synthetic fibres. Additionally, he updated the C&A delegation on the increasing investments and developments in Bangladesh’s backward linking sector, which bolsters the RMG sector’s competitiveness.
The gathering demonstrates a cooperative attempt to fortify alliances and encourage long-term expansion in Bangladesh’s apparel sector.
