
The branches of banks in industry-related areas will remain open on a partial scale on 14th, 15th and 16th June, to enable the payment of salaries and bonuses to garment sector employees before Eid-ul-Azha.
In a notification, Bangladesh Bank (BB) stated that branches in Dhaka metropolitans, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, and Narayanganj will be kept open on a limited scale during the period.
Before Eid, Friday and Saturday (14th and 15th June) are weekly holidays and Sunday (16th June) will be closed for Eid. All banks will be closed during this time.
According to a notification from the BB, banks have been asked to remain open on a limited basis in the garment industry area on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha in order to facilitate the sale of export bills and the payment of salaries and bonuses to workers, employees, and officials working in the industry.
Additionally, the BB directed that bank branches remain open in Chattogram’s industrial and metropolitan districts in order to enable the payment of export bills received by garment workers.
The central bank instructed banks to coordinate with local administration to set up sufficient security in bank branches. Eid-ul-Azha, the largest Muslim religious festival, will be celebrated in Bangladesh on 17th June.
