The Government of Bangladesh has finalized a draft of ‘Sub-Contracting Policy’, to ensure transparency and accountability in sub-contract dealing with the readymade garments export. As per the draft policy, it will be mandatory for the garment factories to implement compliance issues like pay workers as per Government approved wage scale and decent working conditions. Obtaining membership certificates either from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) or the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) is also mandatory to be eligible for doing sub-contracting business. Exporters and factories under sub-contract can also apply for arbitration to BGMEA or BKMEA if any conflicting issues between the parties come up.
