The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is set to make customs assessment system paperless in Bangladesh to facilitate which an 18-member technical team has been formed to monitor overall automation activities.
According to reports, the NBR recently formed ‘Customs Automation National Technical Team’ comprising its officials of customs and ICT wings even if in 2016, Bangladesh ratified the Trade Facilitation Agreement of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to introduce paperless trade.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, member of customs policy and ICT, Md Masud Sadiq, who will, reportedly, lead the committee, said the overall automation activities of the customs wing would be monitored by the team even as answering a specific query, he, reportedly, said automation of the customs system alone would not bring any result as the assessment process is linked with activities of the other entities.
It may be mentioned here although the initiative to launch paperless customs assessment was taken several years ago, no significant progress has been achieved as yet.
