The 72nd founding anniversary of Bangladesh’s Mongla Port was celebrated recently with a pledge to boost its service, capacity and profit.
According to reports, different programmes were held on the day to celebrate the occasion including flag hoisting, discussions and rallies.
To mark the occasion, all domestic and foreign ships anchored at the jetty of the port reportedly blew whistle for one minute.
Underlining that Mongla Port will turn into a shipping hub very soon, Chairman of the Mongla Port Authority (MPA), Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa reportedly added the port’s capacity will be increased by four times within the next three years even if about 500 acres of land of the port have been finalised already for the construction and extension of its jetty, yard and bonded warehouse.
It may be mentioned here that established in 1950, Mongla Port is Bangladesh’s second largest sea port.
