The home textile sector of Bangladesh has continued its good export run in the second year in tandem after ending up as the second highest export earner after apparels, in the just concluded financial year of 2021-22.
As per reports, the industry insiders have attributed this to buyers’ increasing confidence on Bangladesh’s home textile sector — despite the COVID-19 pandemic Bangladesh, reportedly, maintained home textile export uninterrupted when many other destinations faltered — and shifting of orders from countries like Pakistan, Turkey and China.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, the President of the Bangladesh Home Textile Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Md Harun-Ar-Rashid, reportedly, claimed, “Shifting orders from Pakistan during the coronavirus outbreak was the prime reason for increasing Bangladesh’s export,” while also adding apart from Pakistan, China and Turkey also lost many orders as buyers shifted those to other sourcing countries, including Bangladesh.
Seconding Rashid strongly on Bangladesh’s growing popularity in home textiles, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Terry Towel and Linen Manufacturers and Exporters Association, M Shahadat Hossain, on his part, reportedly, maintained that Bangladesh has become the leader of global home textile market along with Pakistan, China and Turkey now.
It may be mentioned here as per figures from Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), export earnings from home textiles in FY ’22 grew by 43.28 per cent to US $ 1.62 billion from what was US $1.13 billion in FY ’21.
