Thanks to consumer spending centring Christmas in the Western world gaining pace after the lull of two pandemic holiday seasons, Bangladesh’s exports fetched a record US $ 5.37 billion in December 2022.
This is as per reports, which citing data from the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), December’s receipts take 2022’s export earnings to a record US $ 54.7 billion, up 23.7 percent year-on-year even if notwithstanding the record earnings, last month’s receipts, which were up 9.33 per cent from a year earlier, fell short of the month’s target.
Meanwhile, readymade garments accounted for about 84 per cent of the total export receipt, bringing home US $4.67 billion in December, 2022 even as according to the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the export receipts from apparel shipments were high owing to increase in unit price on the back of high price for raw materials.
