Bangladesh and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting greater economic cooperation between the two countries. The pledge was made during an Abu Dhabi meeting between UAE State Minister of Foreign Trade Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali.
According to a press release, the meeting highlighted the two countries’ common goals of promoting trade, investment, and development cooperation for mutual prosperity.
They emphasised the need to investigate new and developing areas of cooperation, such as aviation, seaport management, infrastructure development, artificial intelligence, and other cutting-edge technologies, as well as energy security with a focus on renewable energy.
Ali stressed elevating the bilateral ties to the level of comprehensive economic partnership.
As both countries commemorate 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, the ministers emphasised the importance of launching the Joint Business Council and signing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) soon.
In the upcoming months, a high-level team from the UAE is anticipated to visit Bangladesh to investigate investment prospects and pinpoint new areas of cooperation that will be advantageous to both parties.
The Bangladeshi side also asked for more funding from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and other financial organisations in the UAE.
The ministers discussed regional and global economic issues in addition to bilateral ones, reaffirming their commitment to multilateral coordination and collaboration to address common issues and advance sustainable development.
Ambassador of Bangladesh to the UAE Abu Zafar and Additional Secretary of ERD Anwar Hossain accompanied the finance minister during the meeting while the UAE State minister was assisted by senior officials of his ministry.
