The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) has demanded relaxation in Brazil’s visa rules so that more businessmen from Bangladesh can frequently travel to the Latin American country to explore business potentials.
The apex trade association of the country’s knitwear sector has also sought duty-free facility for the export of knit products to Brazil. It has also proposed direct trade between the two countries to enhance bilateral business.
President of BKMEA AKM Salim Osman made the requests while speaking at a meeting titled ‘Promotion of Knitwear Export in Brazil, Unlocking the Potentials’, held at the association’s Dhaka office on Monday.
“Brazil, the eighth largest economy overall and the largest economy in the Latin America can be an attractive market for Bangladesh knitwear products,” Osman said.
He further added that Bangladesh knitwear traders are also interested to go for a joint venture investment in Brazil.
In response, Brazilian Ambassador to Bangladesh João Tabajara de Oliveira Júnior assured the knitwear manufacturers of opening a commerce wing in the Brazilian Embassy to facilitate Bangladesh-Brazil direct trade and solve existing bilateral trade-related barriers within a short time.
“Bangladesh is a trustworthy friend of Brazil. To enhance the bilateral relationship including trade-related activities we would take necessary steps by exchanging mutual benefits between these two nations,” the Ambassador maintained.
Oliveira Júnior was the chief guest at the event. Brazil’s Deputy Head of Mission Julio Cesar Silva and BKMEA Vice President Mansoor Ahmed amongst others also attended the meet.
