
Even as Bangladesh continues to grapple with power crisis and recurrent outages, the Government is mulling to increase import of fuel oil by about 15 lakh tonnes in 2023 principally to feed the fuel oil-based power plants in an effort to tackle the power crisis.
Reports maintained this citing the sources from within the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation in this regard.
The sources reportedly claimed the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation was planning to import 77.2 lakh tonnes of fuel oil in the next calendar year, which amount to about 15 lakh tonnes more from BPC’ current year’s projected fuel oil import of 62.3 lakh tonnes even as the country is said to have imported around 27.6 Lakh tonnes of fuel oil in the six months between January and June in 2022, as per the sources.
