
The apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), organised a colourful programme recently, which witnessed the participation of all the stakeholders including development partners, apparel entrepreneurs, economists, leaders of BGMEA and politicians to celebrate the glorious 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence.
Media reports maintained this adding the garment makers’ body BGMEA also published a special edition of its magazine ‘The Apparel Story’ to commemorate 50 years of the country’s independence and 40 years of the trade body (BGMEA) even as Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, former BGMEA Presidents Mostafa Golam Quddus, Quazi Moniruzzaman, Redwan Ahmed, Md. Siddiqur Rahman, Abdus Salam Murshedy, SM Fazlul Hoque and Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez) along with Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam, who is also the ex-president of the garment makers’ body (BGMEA), took part in the event.
At the said event, BGMEA leaders paid tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and those who made the supreme sacrifices in the 1971 Liberation War even as the trade body (BGMEA) accorded honour to its former presidents as well in recognition of their contributions to the development of the country’s apparel industry.
