The Bangladesh Boyang Textile Co. Ltd., a Chinese firm, is poised to establish a textile and home textile manufacturing facility within the Uttara Export Processing Zone (EPZ), with a substantial investment of US $ 23.15 million.
This momentous development was formalised through a signing ceremony held at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka recently, as per an official press release issued by the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA).
The signing event was graced by the presence of Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, the Executive Chairman of BEPZA.
The agreement was jointly signed by Ali Reza Mazid, representing BEPZA as Member (Investment Promotion), and Peng Liu, Chairman of Bangladesh Boyang Textile Co. Ltd., representing their respective organizations.
Remarkably, this enterprise is entirely foreign-owned and is anticipated to generate employment for 1993 Bangladeshi nationals.
The Bangladesh Boyang Textile Co. Ltd., is slated to produce an impressive annual output, comprising 50 million meters of linen/cotton woven and denim fabrics, alongside 3 million units of home textile items such as pillowcases, bed sheets, and tablecloths.
It is worth mentioning that the Uttara EPZ serves as an emblematic example of the remarkable transformation in the Northern region’s lifestyle. What was once a poverty-stricken area has been dramatically revitalized into an industrially advanced zone since the inception of Uttara EPZ in 2001.
Currently, approximately 35,000 Bangladeshi nationals are gainfully employed across the 25 operational industries within this EPZ, which has attracted investments totaling US$ 235 million and facilitated exports valued at an impressive US$ 2,342 million.
