Thanks to the global economic crisis, apparel makers in Bangladesh are apprehensive exports may dip in January notwithstanding the incredible growths in November and December.
This is as per reports, which underlined the country had sufficient orders in June last year but shortage of gas had stymied production followed by a fall in exports in September and October compared to the previous year even as they quoted the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Faruque Hassan underlining the worries were rooted in the declining purchase orders over the past four months.
The BGMEA President further reportedly cited the absence of logjams at Chittagong Port as a sign of the drop in orders and volumes of exports even as he added, “This does not bode well. We had ships waiting at the port for five to seven days beforehand. That’s no longer the case,” while referring to lack of logjam at the country’s principal port.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, president of the Bangladesh Garments Buying House Association (BGBA) Kazi Iftekhar Hossain, however, maintained shrinking purchase orders were no cause for concern.
