Owing to the recent initiatives of Apparel House Exporters Association (AHEA), there seems to be some hope of reviving the Apparel House (Gurgaon).
The committee constituted by the Ministry of Textile (MoT) for the management of Apparel House (Apparel International Mart) held its second meeting recently. It is expected that some concrete suggestions will emerge regarding its policy finalization within the next 10 days.
Pushpa Subrahmanyam, Additional Secretary, MoT, who is the Chairperson of this six-member committee that also includes Puneet Kumar, SG, AEPC, Rakesh Vaid, HKL Magu, EC Members, AEPC and Rajiv Kapoor of AHEA were present at the meeting.

Meanwhile Neerav Mallick, Director (Exports), who had recently visited the Apparel House, had said in his report that out of the total 250 showrooms (from the 2nd to 6th floor) in the Apparel House, 66 are allotted to exporters, while 98 are lying vacant and 86 are being occupied by others, including seven showrooms with the Sector Skill Council and 22 being with the Institute of Apparel Management (IAM).
Puneet Kumar also suggested that the Apparel House could also be utilised for India International garment Fair (IIGF) and other such fairs, if the existing allotments of apparel houses were canceled and all showrooms vacated, in which case there will be sufficient space for such events.
AHEA is concerned that the lease for the showrooms allotted to exporters will expire in 2017, whereas there are no export promotion activities to justify the allotment. He also made the suggestion of organising more activities like seminars or workshops for export promotion purpose.
The Association has also called on the apparel export fraternity to come forward with more suggestions on how the Apparel House can be best utilised for its original purpose, ie, export promotion.
