The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), an apparel exporters body, has stated that it intends to diversify the reach of the Indian apparel export market into fresh and non-traditional markets in order to increase shipments of Indian clothing worldwide in 2025–2026.
In spite of supply chain interruptions, geopolitical difficulties, and worldwide headwinds, the sector’s exports increased by 11.6 per cent to almost USD 13 billion between April and January 2024–2025, according to AEPC Chairman Sudhir Sekhri.
Through its export promotion initiatives in 2025–2026, the council intends to diversify its markets to include newer and non-traditional countries in order to increase the worldwide reach of Indian garment exports, he added.
He went on to say that the government’s major programs, including the production-linked incentive program, the extension of RoSCTL (Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies), and free trade agreements with Australia and the United Arab Emirates, will undoubtedly hasten the sector’s growth.
Exports in traditional large markets like the US and Europe are growing at robust rates, according to AEPC Secretary General Mithileshwar Thakur. According to Thakur, ready-made clothing exports have increased by 13.8 per cent in the US, 8.9 per cent in the UK, 10.6 per cent in Germany, and 19.7 per cent in Spain.
