Realising the importance of skill development in the developing markets, the American company – American & Efird (Bangladesh), with a 120 years history inaugurated state-of-the-art ‘Design Studio’ and ‘Display Centre’ at BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT). The event was highlighted by presence of the US Ambassador, Dan W. Mozena, along with Robert Hallett, Vice President, International Development, A&E (LLC), Angelo Leanage, Managing Director, A&E (Bangladesh) Ltd., Muzaffar U. Siddique, Chairman, Board of Trustees, BUFT and Syed Masud Husain, Vice Chancellor, BUFT were also present to grace the occasion.
The main objective behind this initiative is to provide the final year students a cutting edge design studio where the students will learn to work with different fabrics and threads and are able to learn many more process details, to help the students grow. A&E will regularly conduct seminars and give away awards to the best performing students. The occasion was also marked with the opening of display centre not only for the students but also for the industry.
The company also plans to associate with garment factories, universities and design studios, to support in knowledge sharing. “By developing designers and awarding good students the opportunities to get trained at our design centres internationally, we are playing our role in developing the industry,” elaborates Angelo. The company strongly believes that design studios are the future of the country and soon every manufacturer would require one of its own. Therefore, enhancing the skills of students at this stage would help the company to produce future designers who will tomorrow go into the industry and might also encourage deeper association with A&E.
