Bangladesh Government’s revenue authorities have shut down 126 customs borders officially, which account for 70 per cent of its trans-border rail, road, and water routes to Myanmar and India.
Media reports maintained this citing the concerned officials.
Reports citing officials underlined the NBR or the National Board of Revenue has closed the Land Customs Stations (LCS) as these have, reportedly, been lying inoperative for last 20 years even as from now on 57 border points would be allowed as entry and exit routes for import-export trade cross land and water borders.
Of the LCSs, seven road, rail and river customs stations have been allocated for different large projects or industries.
Reports further added the customs wing of the NBR recently issued a gazette with the fresh list of LCS and allowable import-export goods to be traded through those passages with the neighbouring countries even as the new list took effect on 24 February 2022.
