In Mumbai, a 62-year-old woman died after a fire broke out at some garment unit located in the Dharavi slum colony. As per media reports, at least four to five units located on the ground floors of two adjacent double-storey buildings in Ashok Mill compound were affected by the blaze which erupted at around noon.
It was Level 1 fire and as per Mumbai Fire Brigade, such fire accidents are treated as minor emergency calls.
The deceased, Usha Londhe, was trapped inside the bathroom as fire engulfed the area.
A Fire Brigade official said that the fire was confined to the electric wiring, electric installation, machinery and clothes in the garment units.
He further added that during the fire-fighting operation, a woman was found trapped inside a bathroom on the ground floor. She was rushed to Sion Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
Piles of burnt garments were moved out of the lane to prevent further fire. The narrow lane was sealed by the police and fire brigade officials for conducting investigations. There is only one narrow lane that leads to all others in the area, which are constructed as ground plus one or ground plus two storied structures housing various factories.
It can be mentioned here that Dharavi slum colony has many small unorganised garment units, mainly those which produce for domestic market.
