Bangladesh’s apex garment makers’ body- the BGMEA has recently commenced a week-long campaign aimed at raising social awareness about the significance of tree plantation in preserving the environment and the planet, as well as encouraging individuals to engage in regular tree planting activities.
Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Md. Atiqul Islam, inaugurated the program at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka on 10th July. The campaign launching event was chaired by BGMEA President Faruque Hassan.
Directors of BGMEA, along with the chairmen, co-chairmen, and members of different standing committees of BGMEA, were present on the occasion.
Speaking as the chief guest during the opening ceremony, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam highlighted the numerous benefits that trees provide to people even as he emphasised that just as trees supply oxygen to humans, they also play a vital role in safeguarding the environment by absorbing harmful carbon emissions.
The mayor urged everyone to engage in tree planting not only in Dhaka but throughout the country, and he emphasised the importance of taking care of the planted trees even as he expressed his gratitude to BGMEA for taking the timely initiative of organizing the tree plantation programme.
