In an unfortunate accident, at least two labourers (identified as Faizan and Sehmat) died in fire at a jeans manufacturing factory in New Delhi, the capital city of India, on April 22, 2018.
Media reports claim that the flames engulfed the factory located in Kailash Nagar locality of the Gandhi Nagar area in the city at around 11.45 pm. At least 10 fire tenders were rushed to douse the flames. It took them around 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The exact reason of the fire breakout is yet to be ascertained, however, it is being said that short circuit is likely to be the major reason behind the incident.
Additionally, it is being said that the building housing the factory was stuffed with denim materials that blocked the emergency escape routes in the factory. As the workers were trapped they fell unconscious that led to their death due to lack of oxygen inside.
Notably, the factory owner used to live with his family on the third floor while the second and first floors were used for stitching jeans. The ground floor was used as a godown where the garment products were stocked. Family members and four labourers managed to escape from the terrace.
