The number of green garment manufacturing units in Bangladesh is inching fast towards the 200-mark having reached 178 already after two more units achieved the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) recently.
This is as per reports, which maintained, of the two units to be certified green are Barnali Collections Limited at Hazaribagh in Narayanganj which has received the gold certification while Beximco Industrial Park at Sarabo in Gazipur received the platinum-rated LEED certification.
Reports further added, currently Bangladesh has 58 platinum-plated factories, 106 gold- rated and 10 silver-rated garment units while four are only LEED certified even as another 550 garment factories in the country are waiting for LEED certification from the USGBC.
