In Tirupur, a multi-stakeholder Textile Industry Coalition (TiC) was established to improve the application of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act and guarantee women’s safety at work.
The project will remove workplace barriers that prevent women from contributing to the economy, according to Geetha Jeevan, Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department, who spoke at the first meeting of its Steering Committee.
The Government has also declared the establishment of TiCs in the districts of Coimbatore, Karur, Dindigul, Namakkal, and Erode.
While Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, Minister for Human Resource Management, concentrated on improving HRM practices to increase the safety of women workers in the textile industry, M.P. Saminathan, Minister for Information and Publicity, discussed the role of the media in advancing TiC’s goals and increasing awareness of women’s issues within the textile industry.
UN Women’s Strategic Partnership Division Director Dan Seymour emphasised the value of stakeholder cooperation in bringing about significant change in the textile sector.
While Amuthavalli, Secretary to Government, Handlooms, Handicrafts, Textiles and Khadi Department, and Jayashree Muralidharan, Secretary to Government, Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department, provided more details on the Government’s workplace safety initiatives, District Collector T. Christuraj emphasised the importance of working together to promote the textile industry.
