Supporting sustainability, ASDA, the UK-based leading supermarket chain, has launched a new clothing take-back scheme which will incentivise shoppers to return unwanted items by offering a 10 per cent discount on its George brand of apparel.
The initiative will see ASDA join hands with British recycling firm Yellow Octopus.
“It’s really important for our customers and colleagues that we tackle the issue of not just sourcing our clothes more sustainably, but also encouraging everyone in the UK to think about the issues of waste and how to make fashion and textiles more circular so that we can really reduce the number of garments that go into landfill,” says Mel Wilson, Global Professional Lead for Sustainable Sourcing and Quality, ASDA.
It is pertinent to mention here that ASDA claims that more than 18 million people shop with ASDA every week and 98 per cent of UK homes are served by www.asda.com.
In addition to the ‘Take Back’ scheme, ASDA continues to support textile recycling with over 400 clothes’ banks in their carparks, which supports the Salvation Army.
The recycling scheme was launched in participating stores and customers can find out more about what George is doing to support sustainable fashion at George.com.
Many other brands are already supporting environment by taking their used clothes back from their customers.
