The global textile market is growing rapidly, fuelling the growth of the textile chemicals segment – anticipated to exceed US $ 30.70 billion by 2025 globally (according to a report by Grand View Research, Inc). Bangladesh, being the preferred garmenting hub, is considered a major driver of this growth after China and India, which already has numerous chemical manufacturers focusing on the country to capitalize on the opportunities and gain traction. India-based Resil Chemicals, a diversified chemical and performance materials manufacturer with more than 1,000 customers across four continents among varied industries such as textiles, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, leather, personal care, antifoams, car care and antimicrobials is one such name which is aggressively working to strengthen its position in Bangladesh. In textiles, Resil’s range of products and solutions include Textile Finishing, Textile Enzymes, Functional Finishes, Textile Pre-treatment, Thread & Yarn Finishing, Technical Textiles and Textile Formulator.
“Bangladesh is a very big market and our growth has been around 30-35 per cent year-on-year. Despite this, we have hardly been able to cover 2-3 per cent of the total market. Our estimates suggest that we can do even better here compared to India, so our plan is now to expand market reach and share,” underlined Subhendu Das, Country Manager of Resil for Bangladesh.
Resil has diligently worked out a roadmap to achieve the same with focus on increasing its presence and visibility, customized services befitting clients’ requirements, service improvement and positioning brand Resil to differentiate it from others. And all these with an eye on sustainability!
“As a company, we put lot of stress on the finishing of garments and fabrics (instead of focusing on full package) which also helps avoid being stereotyped as a mere chemical supplier,” points out Subhendu, and joined by Shamsul Alam Masud (Manager – Sales & Marketing) while emphasising the fact that product range and quality-wise offerings being almost the same from majority of the companies, having in-depth service presence and application within the country is what differentiates Resil from others. As such Siddarth Kumar, Director of Resil Chemicals has lined up a state-of-the-art laboratory, to be operational by end of 2017.
“We are putting up this lab to extend our services to the customers because these days the retailers and buyers ask for lots of tests which are not possible for the fabric manufacturers to do,” explains Siddarth.
This will be Resil’s first ever laboratory outside India.
Resil recently introduced its new pre-treatment and finishing solutions Soladel, a Titania Microsphere technology, and finishing agents like N9 Pure Silver and Neu Dri.
Soladel harnesses sunlight to produce reactive oxygen, breaking down organic dirt molecules, releasing them from the surface of the fabric. Garments treated with Soladel use the natural power of sunlight to peel off any kind of organic dirt, thereby easing the washing process.
Finishing agent N9 Pure Silver neutralises odour-causing bacteria on treated textiles, keeping garments fresh for longer while Neu Dri, wicks perspiration from the skin and transfers moisture to the fabric’s surface, facilitating evaporation, leaving the wearer dry and comfortable.
Researching on new products and quality are our focus areas for investment in textiles. And I am sure, in five years, we will be amongst the top three in Bangladesh,” declares Vibhav Nawathe – Vice President (Sales & Marketing – Textiles), underlining sustainability is slowly taking the centre stage in the Bangladesh textile sector. Resil has also undertaken a comprehensive programme, covering all aspects of sustainability. In the first step, the company invited some prominent laboratories working in the field of sustainability in India to conduct a seminar followed by training of selected team members on sustainability, expanded now to regional levels where selected members underwent 14-module training in association with the Manchester University.
“The biggest requirement for tomorrow is not only green chemistry but also energy saving and water conservation,” underlines Vibhav.
Counting names such as Anwar Group, Noman Group, Utah Group, Specific Jeans, Cotton Group, Mohammed Group and Purbani Group amongst its select group of clients in Bangladesh and catering to all the sections in textiles, including knit, woven and denim, Resil is planning to come up with a dilution plant in Bangladesh to make further inroads while also improving its services in the country.
