Workers from Lenny Fashion and Lenny Apparels, both subsidiaries of the Hong Kong-based Mast Group, have blocked the Nabinagar-Chandra Highway for the second consecutive day on Wednesday in a demonstration over unpaid wages and benefits.
The factories, situated in the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (EPZ), ceased operations four years ago during the Covid-19 pandemic. Hundreds of workers began protesting on Tuesday morning, leading to significant traffic disruptions along the highway.

The protesters are calling for the payment of three months’ unpaid salaries, service benefits, and other outstanding dues. Frustrated workers expressed their grievances, with Md Islam from Lenny Apparels stating, “Since the plant closed, I am owed Taka 44,000, which includes one month’s salary and other benefits. We walked to the streets because we are dubious about the payment promise made by 30th November.”
The industrial police have confirmed the protests and are currently mediating discussions between the workers and the relevant authorities to address the situation. Law enforcement agencies remain on high alert to prevent any escalation of the unrest.
