
A delegation comprising members from Oxfam Australia and Canada recently called on BGMEA President Faruque Hassan in Dhaka even as both sides discussed possible avenues of working together for the sustainable development of the apparel industry in Bangladesh while also stressing the importance of the issue of ethical buying practices and fair prices so as to build a more resilient supply chain that ensures the rights and welfare of the garment workers.
As per reports, the BGMEA President, during the meeting, highlighted the need for concerted efforts of stakeholders concerned, including buyers to build a better and more sustainable apparel industry even as they discussed ways to collaborate with buyers to make trade fairer that would benefit the apparel industry and its millions of workers as well.
Chairperson of BGMEA Standing Committee on Foreign Mission Cell Shams Mahmud was also present at the meeting even as the Oxfam delegation included Bella McMahon, Policy Advocacy and Campaigns Support Officer, Oxfam Australia; Nayeem Emran, Economic Justice Advisor, Oxfam Australia; Mwangala Matakala, Campaigns and Outreach Officer, Oxfam Canada; and Md Razu Ahmad Masum, Programme Officer, CJNRR, Oxfam in Bangladesh.
