With the idea to strengthen the organic fibre industry in North America, the Organic Trade Association (OTA) and Textile Exchange (TE) have decided to collaborate their resources. The move came close on the heels of the recent formation of OTA’s Fibre Council that is expected to boost the North American organic fibre sector.
“This is just the beginning of an exciting collaboration that will propel the organic fibre sector to the next level. People want to make organic a bigger part of their lifestyle, but they are often unaware of all the ways that organic fibre can contribute to human and planetary wellness, as well as social justice,” said Marci Zaroff, Founder of Under the Canopy.
The major goal of this partnership is to educate North American consumers and textile manufacturers on the benefits of processing and growing organic fibre and textiles. Owing to the splurge in demand for organic clothing many leading retailers have joined various platforms Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) and are trying to position themselves responsible stewards by pledging and working towards sustainable supply chain.

Organic Trade Association is an organisation working in the field of organic agriculture and products in North America. With 8,500 organic businesses in the league, it has become a leading voice vehemently promoting and protecting organically produced fibres and textiles in North America, while Textile Exchange (TE), founded in 2002, is a global not-for-profit organization, working closely with all the sectors of the textile supply chain.
The two groups have decided to work together on legislative advocacy, public outreach and consumer education initiatives on the organic fibre and textiles.
