
The chemical company from Italy, Officina39 has come up with the ZeroPP|ALL.IN, a product replacement for potassium permanganate – a toxic compound that’s widely used in denim finishing.
This sustainable replacement has been rolled out following the report from the self-accredition tool EIM (Environmental Impact Measuring) and the worker-led network Clean Clothes Campaign Turkey stating the harmful effects of the potassium permanganate on workers’ health and environment at large. The EIM has even urged the manufacturers to eliminate the usage of this toxic compound.
With such reports in effect, Officina39 also additionally announced that this replacement has been launched only after a number of successful trials on the industrial level and this innovation, the chemical company, said was also previewed at the events like the Denim Première Vision and Kingpins Amsterdam.
Speaking about their innovative product, the company also stated that ZeroPP|ALL.IN is a desirable and cost-effective solution for the companies that are aiming at moving away from hazardous substances involved in the production.
In addition, Officina39 also revealed that their product will yield the same vintage-effect result as the potassium permanganate-finishing and that it can be applied directly on the raw fabric either through nebulisation application or spraying. Following the first step, the company also talked about the laser finishing and a dry ozone treatment, which is done right after laser application and without the requirement for rinsing. Talking about replicating the finishing of the potassium permanganate, Officina39 also said that ozone and laser-marked areas react to achieve the indigo corrosion of the harmful compound, potassium permanganate, and finally finishing is done after the ozone.
Speaking about the benefits of their new product, ZeroPP|ALL.IN, Managing Director of Officina39, Andrea Venier said that their single-product process is streamlined other than being sustainable and feasible for the garment manufacturing industry.
