
Under its CSR initiative Project “Nirman,” ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) laid the foundation stone for the Gandhamardan Apparel Unit’s development in Jatra village, Banspal block, Keonjhar. The Gandhamardan Apparel Farmer Production Company (FPC), which is made up of more than 480 women from 80 local Self Help Groups (SHGs), will have better economic options thanks to this new apparel unit.
The FPC and the villagers will supply the land, while AM/NS India will build the building complex. Along with amenities like a store, office, sales counters, restrooms, and toilets, the facility will have enough space for 75 stitching units with DG backup and electricity. After development is finished, the infrastructure will support the Farmer Production Company’s expansion of operations in line with Mission Shakti and the Odisha Livelihoods Mission. Additionally, it will enhance the members’ expertise, help them start profitable businesses, and boost their yearly revenue.
Dr. Fakir Mohan Naik, MLA, Telkoi, and T.S. Shanbhogue, Head of Greenfield Projects, EC & FC, Odisha, AM/NS India, along with H. D. Dhanraj, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Keonjhar, Raja Ranjeet Prasad Bal, Block Development Officer (BDO), Banspal, and Shailendra Sah, Project Head, TSF, Pipelines and Sagasahi Project, Odisha, AM/NS India, organised a ceremony at which the Gandhamardan Apparel Unit members laid the foundation stone. The ceremony was attended by around 500 women SHG members and members of the local community.
Dr. Fakir Mohan Naik praised AM/NS India for helping the community improve the local SHGs’ sources of income. He also promised that the government would facilitate the purchase of school uniforms, which would assist the women who work in the clothing unit earn more money.
