A concern of Chittagong-based Pacific Jeans Group, NHT Fashions Ltd, aced platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) recertification early this month, after it upgraded from the gold certification it secured in 2017.
Media reports claimed this citing Bangladesh’s apex garment makers’ body of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), NHT Fashions scored 84 in the latest assessment by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), up from the previous score of 64 even as with this, Bangladesh becomes the home to 66 LEED-certified Platinum factories.
“This is an example of Bangladesh, not only Pacific Jeans,” reportedly underlined BGMEA Director Md Mohiuddin Rubel even as he added the recertification and upgrading reflected the entrepreneurs’ commitment to sustainability and continuous development.
Apart from LEED-certified Platinum units, Bangladesh also boasts 109 Gold, 10 Silver and four LEED-certified factories even if over 500 other garment factories are awaiting LEED certification for their green initiatives, as per the BGMEA.
