Finnish fashion retailer Lindex will donate 10 per cent of its total sales on the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8) to HERhealth project, an initiative launched to take care of ‘health’ and ‘quality of life’ of female textile workers.
The initiative, led by the Organization for BSR (Business for Social Responsibility) training programme, aims to increase the awareness of health issues and the availability of healthcare for women workers.
The company has around 5,000 workforces and nearly 480 stores in 18 markets in the Nordic nations, the Baltic States, Central Europe and the Middle East. Markedly, women constitute the majority of workforce and customer base of Lindex, so the company intends to contribute to improving their health through the HERhealth project.
Last year, Lindex donated a total of Euro 114,000 to HERhealth project. This amount has been utilised in launching nine new HERhealth projects. Around 8,500 women have been covered under these initiatives in apparel manufacturing hubs such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, China and Myanmar.
Lindex has been associated with the HERhealth programme since 2012. The HERhealth programme has offered health counselling to around 22,000 women in Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, China, Myanmar and Pakistan so far.
According to Lindex’s Corporate Sustainability Manager, Anna-Karin Dahlberg, women folk are important to the company so they keep looking for ways to inspire and empower women in business.
Earlier in January this year, Lindex donated Euro 280,000 to sustainable research programme STEPS and WaterAid, an organisation that aims to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people in the world by improving the access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.
