The apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association or BGMEA, recently sought from its member factories proposals on the amendment to the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, by 28 June.
As per reports, BGMEA issued a notice in this regard on 20 June (Monday) underlining the Government has taken an initiative to amend the labour law and formed a tripartite committee to facilitate the same and went on to seek amendment proposals on provisions which are tough to comply with and contradictory, if any, with other laws.
To address the concerns as raised by the European Union over specific labour issues, including freedom of association and rights to collective bargaining, Bangladesh Government has, reportedly, taken initiative to amend the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 further.
