Spiber, a biotech venture company, recently partnered with two Italian textile companies, Manifattura Sesia s.r.l. and Achille Pinto S.p.A. to utilise the Brewed Protein™ fibre – an eco-friendly plant-based material created by Spiber through a fermentation process. This incorporation of Brewed Protein™ fibre has led to the creation of new yarns developed by the Italian manufacturers.
Spiber’s collaboration with Manifattura Sesia s.r.l, has resulted in the creation of yarn blends that boast 30 % Brewed Protein™ fibre mixed with wool. The new yarn developed is called T-Gen (Technological Generation Yarns). Chiara Serra, Creative Director at Manifattura Sesia s.r.l. expressed her excitement regarding the partnership and talked about the softness and lower weight of the yarn as compared to the pure wool. Serra also revealed the development of three variations of T-Gen yarn, which she said were a result of combination of Superfine Merino Wool and Brewed Protein™ fibre.
Further, with Achille Pinto S.p.A, an Italian textile mill, the collaboration resulted in the development of yarn with 15 to 30% Brewed Protein™ fibre with silk.
Apart from these two companies, Spiber has also earlier partnered with two other Italian companies – yarn company Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia and fabric product manufacturer Botto Giuseppe.
