As stated in its most recent Sustainability report, HanesBrands Inc., the parent company of the clothing brands Champion, Bonds, Maidenform, and Bali, plans to attain zero waste in all aspects of the business by 2025.
The report, which was released on 20th April in honour of Earth Day, outlines the actions the clothing firm has taken to guarantee that it meets its sustainability targets for 2025 to 2030, which are centred around its three main pillars: people, planet, and product.
In 2023, Hanesbrand was granted approval by the Science Based Targets initiative for its near-term science-based targets, which involve a 25 percent reduction in water and energy consumption. The company has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 intensity by 41 per cent and its absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 53 per cent since 2019. Ninety-four percent of the garbage from operations owned by HanesBrands is diverted from landfills, and nearly sixty percent of the electricity utilised is generated from renewable resources.
HanesBrand plans to move to 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2030 in addition to attaining zero trash by 2025. The most recent report states that since establishing its targets in 2020, HanesBrands’ initiatives in sustainability have resulted in savings of US $ 23 million, with more than US $ 10 million expected to be saved in 2023.
“I’m incredibly proud of the work we have done over the years to drive us closer to reaching our aggressive goals around People, Planet, and Product,” said Steve Bratspies, CEO of HanesBrands, in a statement.
