
Green financing by the banks in Bangladesh, in the October-December period of 2022, increased by 51.6 per cent compared to that in the previous quarter ending in September 2022.
This is as per reports, which cited the data in this regard from the central bank of the country, Bangladesh Bank, the quarterly of which has reportedly underlined the amount of banks’ investments in green projects stood at Taka 4,050.54 crore at the end of December 2022 as against Taka 2,670.38 crore at the end of September 2022 even as that by the NBFIs or the non-banking financial institutions also increased to Taka 627.46 crore at the end of December from what was Taka 108.48 crore at the end of September.
The reports further reportedly added of the total loan disbursement by the banks and the NBFIs, green finance accounted for 6.5 per cent and 16.32 per cent respectively even if around 36 out of the 61 banks and 11 out of the 34 NBFIs had had exposure to green financing in the reporting quarter.
