The interim Government has announced urgent measures to address the pending wages and benefits of workers at the TNZ Group’s garment factory. Officials pledged to settle all outstanding dues within the next seven working days.
To facilitate this, authorities plan to sell assets belonging to the TNZ Group owner, including the company’s washing plant and his residence in DOHS, Mohakhali, Dhaka. The move aims to generate funds necessary for compensating the affected workers, according to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s press wing issued Tuesday night.
In addition, the Government intends to bring the factory owner back to Bangladesh from abroad by issuing a red alert through Interpol. Travel bans have also been imposed on the company’s directors and other individuals involved in management.
Following these developments and a consensus among all parties, workers’ leaders have agreed to withdraw their planned siege of the ‘Shrom Bhaban,’ the headquarters of the Government’s labour department.
Meanwhile, the Director (Finance) of TNZ Group remains in Government custody until all dues owed to the workers are fully paid, the authorities confirmed.
