More than 100 garment workers of apparel manufacturing unit Base Textile recently laid siege to the regional office of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in Chittagong demanding due payments.
This is as per media reports, which claimed the workers gathered at the BGMEA building in Chittagong after the manufacturing unit they were working in closed on 13 August without prior announcement.
Meanwhile, according to the apparel workers, the manufacturing unit had not paid their wages for the last three months before it closed down in August even if earlier, on 27 July, workers of Base Textile had also blocked road at the Outer Signal intersection of the port city demanding due payments.
