Luxury fashion group Kering has become among the first to adopt the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) reflecting its nature-conscious side. SBTN is a leading organisation in setting science-based targets for nature and it is continuously accelerating its efforts to address the global biodiversity crisis.
As per SBTN, Kering opting for nature-conscious steps is a significant milestone toward corporates adopting eco-friendly goals and addressing the increasing environmental challenges, especially those related to water and land use.
These science-based targets lay the foundation for delivering the Global Biodiversity Framework, which emphasises curbing non-environmental friendly practices and highlights how the conglomerates and corporates are acting on taking the right actions.
With the fashion and apparel industry being one of the major contributors to environmental hazards, Kering’s step towards undertaking sustainable targets comes as a major push to the industry in general
Building on the success of its pilot program, SBTN has refined its methodology and expanded its target-setting services to include over 150 additional companies. The organisation is also launching a new target validation service to ensure the accuracy and rigor of corporate nature targets.
Looking ahead, SBTN plans to release the next generation of nature targets in 2025, covering biodiversity, freshwater, land, and ocean ecosystems. This ambitious goal aligns with the urgent need to protect nature and mitigate climate change.
