Despite all the best practices across the apparel manufacturing facilities in India, fire mishaps continue to happen.
And this time it’s the apparel manufacturing unit of India’s well-known apparel brand Octave, Ludhiana that has got engulfed in flames. In addition to having 190 stores across India, the company has its own production units as well as outsources too.
The incident took place on Monday morning when workers were working inside the facility. Fortunately all of them have been reported safe.
Huge stock (mainly raw material) was placed inside the factory which got burnt. The fire, which is believed to have taken place due to short-circuit, started from the basement of the factory.
Speaking to Team Apparel Resources, Yuvraj Arore, Partner of the company, said “We are still assessing the loss, but it’s been a major loss for us. This unit has 700 stitching machines. Our state-of-the-art arrangement helped us, as we have fire protection water storage tank that stores 60,000 litres reserve water.”
Local media quoted Bhupinder Singh, Assistant Divisional Fire Officer (ADFO) as saying, “Around 8 fire engines were rushed and it took almost an hour to douse the flames. The quick response by the fire brigade made it possible for the workers of the garment factory to salvage a lot of raw material.”
It is pertinent to mention here that Ludhiana, one of the leading knitted apparel hubs of North India, having thousands of textile and garmenting units, has frequently witnessed several fire incidents. Just few days back, Sharma Processor’s unit caught fire. Similarly, 10 days back, Ajay Textile, another unit, also got engulfed in blaze.
