
In a move that is seen as an effort to obtain the GSP-Plus status in the key export market of the European Union (EU) and comply with European Union labour standards, Bangladesh is mulling to amend the labour laws in the country.
As per reports, Senior Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, reportedly, underlined the same recently after a meeting with the foreign, labour and law secretaries in Dhaka even as he added the Government also plans to ensure conformity in labour laws for the workers of the factories located in and outside of export processing zones (EPZs).
The Senior Commerce Secretary further, reportedly, said the Government has launched employment injury insurance scheme on a pilot basis to improve the labour rights while maintaining, it has set a target to eliminate more than one lakh hazardous child labourers from various sectors by appointing over 100 non-governmental organisations across Bangladesh by 2025.
