To exchange best practices for implementing extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs for footwear and textiles throughout Europe, a new forum has been established. In order to manage EPR on behalf of producers, 22 European trade associations and producer responsibility organisations (PROs) formed the Textile PRO Forum as a voluntary effort.
The difficulty of managing the intricacies of up to 27 distinct EPR models for textiles in the EU is intended to be addressed by the recently established voluntary Textile PRO Forum. The Forum aims to promote cooperation, knowledge exchange, and harmonisation among Textile EPR Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs), as EPR schemes are increasingly a key component of the European strategy for textile sustainability and circularity.
The Forum was founded by Euratex, the European Textile and Apparel Confederation, and Refashion, the first PRO for textiles. Its main goals are to support recycling initiatives, harmonise approaches to eco-modulation fees, reduce administrative burdens, and create a framework for the development and growth of PROs.
Experienced PROs and national business associations from all over Europe, including those from Spain, France, Belgium, Denmark, and other countries, come together at the Forum. For companies involved in the European textile sector, this cooperative effort is anticipated to increase productivity and help them manage the intricacies of several EPR models.
