Established in 2003, by the alumni batch of 1978 from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, IIMPACT provides educational opportunities to girls, from socially and economically disadvantaged communities of India, who traditionally have no access to schooling. The charitable trust established local community-based Learning Centres, where these young girls get meaningful and stimulating education up to class 5 and are guided to their entry into mainstream education… Today IIMPACT educates 20,000 girls in 8 States of India.
Many big names from the industry like Anil Tandon, MD, Tex Corp and Gautam Nair, MD, Matrix Clothing are closely associated with the trust as founder members. In fact Nirmala Tandon is the Chief Operating Officer of IIMPACT and her relentless efforts have been the backbone of the initiative. The impact that this trust has had on girl education can be gauged from the recent results of students. To the pride of the promoters and people involved, this year a record of 1409 girls from the various centre passed the class 5th exam, a substantial increase of about 100% from the figure of 762 in 2011. Significantly, 1232 girls have passed out with first division in the year 2012, showing the positive impact of education on the small minds looking out for knowledge.
With 609 centres across the country the trust’s vision is to take the learning number of centres to 2,000 by the end of the year 2014, benefiting approximately 60,000 girls. The NGO believes their strength lies in their teaching methodology, and is all set to establish Sar-La IIMPACT Resource Centre, to focus on training sessions of the teachers to ensure consistent positive results of their activities.
