New York-based Champion’s latest offering, ‘The Eco Future Reverse Weave’ collection, stands as a new solution in sustainable fashion. Purposefully crafted for gradual decomposition, these garments come with an expiry date, representing a shift from enduring longevity to purposeful use. The approach hinges on the use of CiCLO technology, an in-house, eco-friendly advancement aimed at accelerating the natural breakdown of materials, notably polyester and nylon, found in the construction of sweatshirts and joggers.
By integrating CiCLO during the fibre production process, these synthetic materials are transformed into a liquid state, eventually evolving into threads through a process known as melt extrusion. This method allows these garments to imitate the behavior of natural fibres, facilitating their gradual decomposition and integration back into the natural environment, thus combating the issue of plastic microfibre pollution.
The collection’s color palette, is also a testament to sustainability as it derives from natural sources, harnessing extracts from diverse organic materials like pomegranate rinds, annatto, Terminalia Chebula fruit crusts, and kerria lacca insects. Beyond their ecological credentials, these biodegradable sweatshirts and joggers boast an oversized, unisex fit, designed to mitigate shrinkage while retaining their original size.
