The Cambodian Labour Confederation (CLC) will be proposing US $ 211.94 as the minimum wage for the garment workers when it meets industry stakeholders on 10th September.
The announcement was made by CLC following its meeting with several trade union leaders on 6th September.
Various factors like inflation, productivity, business profitability, cost of living and competitiveness were discussed during the meet.
Ath Thorn, President, CLC, said that most of the people who were part of the meeting were happy with the proposed number.
Conforming to the thoughts of the CLC President, National Trade Union Coalition (NTUC) President Far Saly said that US $ 211.94 was a reasonably satisfying number for negotiations.
Meanwhile the Labour Advisory Committee mentioned that the negotiations for the minimum wage will end before the Cambodian religious festival of Pchum Ben in October.
Cambodian Minister of Labour Ith Sam Heng had recently stated that all government officials, company owners and trade unions should come together and agree for a reasonable minimum wage.
Earlier this year, the minimum wage was increased to US $ 170, a 10 per cent jump from US $ 153 in 2017.
