Underlining the need and importance to ensure sustainable livelihood of the workers employed in Bangladesh’s readymade garment industry, the country’s apex garment exporters’ body, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has once again called upon the stakeholders to collaborate and work towards the same.
The traders’ body maintained this at a recent meeting presided over by the BGMEA President Dr. Rubana Huq and attended by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Bangladesh Country Director Tuomo Poutiainen, representatives from the Government, buyers, experts, the European Union (EU), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and other donor agencies.
To achieve sustainable livelihood of the workers and the industry, more than 500 garment factories in the country have registered themselves for opting green or environment-friendly production facilities, and these units are proceeding towards ensuring long-term sustainability, maintained the BGMEA.
