The Government of Bangladesh is aiming to provide electricity to all of the country’s households by 2021. With financial support from World Bank and other development partners, it plans to generate 220 megawatts of electricity for around 6 million households by 2017 through the solar home system programme. This will certainly allow the Government to fulfil the energy demand of the textile and apparel sector of the country as well, which is not able to work in full swing due to the power shortage. The Government is further encouraging domestic and foreign investments in the plants by offering grants and low-interest loans to investors.
