Close on heels of reports that claimed Bangladesh might ratify the ILO convention by March this year, which was one of the actions on labour rights suggested by the European Union to sustain the existing generalised scheme of preferences (GSP) in the European market, Bangladesh has recently ratified the same.
Media reports maintained this adding as per a statement issued by the Employment Ministry, Bangladesh has ratified all the core ILO conventions with the ratification of the Convention 138.
On 22 March, State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian is scheduled to handover the ratified document of the Convention 138 to ILO Director General Guy Ryder, in Geneva.
The Minister, in the statement issued, further, reportedly, claimed by 2025, child labour from all sectors would be eliminated.
